The Chamans Vineyard

From our vineyard located in the Languedoc (south of France), we produce biodynamic wines reflecting the Minervois terroir.

Our Philosophy

is to grow our grapes biodynamically, treating the vineyard as a whole, to achieve balance through a relationship of the soil, native vegetation, olive trees, lavender, bees for biodiversity and rhythms of the Universe.

We compost, using organic manure and biodynamic preparations which, when spread on the soil, encourage a rich microbial life that in turn nurtures the vines.

Our Land

is essentially composed limestone and clay with several parcels of schist. The advantage of clay is it retains moisture, essential when you experience the heat of the Languedoc.

The predominant wind, le Cers, helps to dry out the humidity on the grapes and allows us to reduce the number of preventive treatments.

When the vineyard is dormant, a small flock of sheep keep the weeds down between the vines and provide natural fertiliser. We collect our Rainwater and this softer water increases the efficiency of the biodynamic preparations when dynamised.

Our red grape varieties range from 8-60 years old. Grenache/Syrah/Carignan/Mourvèdre and Cinsault.

For the white, we have 25yr old Marsanne, Roussanne and younger plantings of Grenache blanc, Clairette and Roussanne.
